It's been a really crazy ride since I last posted what I was emotionally going through. It's not much. Nothing very significant to go chanting about in my public blog, but some emotions just need to be let out. Like how torn I felt after re-watching the MTV series Awkward.
I've been watching it for years now and just recently, I went back to some of the old Matty + Jenna scenes and I can't help but feel emotionally broken. It's been such a tough three seasons for them.
In the beginning, Matty was this asshole of a man. Then at season 2, Jenna was trying to resolve her feelings between Jake and Matty. By the third season, it was just a train-wreck. Jenna becomes this typical rebel teenager going through puberty. She did drugs and pushed everyone away, including the man who loved her most. It's terrible.
But with everything out of the way, season 4 started very fresh. There was this new vibe to each character. Jenna was a little more mature. Matty returned to the douche bag he was in the first season, but better. Tamara became this overly obsessed person who doesn't stop to think about the man he's dating. And lastly, Jake became this... well, weird guy who doesn't shave much and has long hair. Not to mention his whole obsession over his guitar.
The 4th season is only on it's 6th episode to date, but there's already been too much drama. Who knew that Matty turned out to be adopted? And what's worse is that he becomes the worst possible version of himself. Using Jenna for the sex again and not talking about his feelings? Yeah, douche bag move! And it's annoying the hell out of me. Anyway... With that terrible development crossed off my list, let's go to the good ones, like Jenna's transformation. Come on! Every one has to love her new aura. She's still a little hung over Matty but that's the typical high school girl coming out of her tiny figure. It's normal and realistic and that's what I love most about it.
Another excellent development is Luke! Honestly, I like his character. It's very well-developed and mature compared to all the 'broken' characters from the series. It's a great change and I like him with Jenna. Although, I get this weird feeling that along the season, we'll be seeing some bad habits from him. Maybe he's cheating? I don't know, but I just feel it coming. Nobody suddenly makes a perfect and well-mannered character out of a show that deals with realistic 'broken' teenagers. We'll see. But the point of this rant is to express my grief over the last scene of the sixth episode.
One moment, I was loving the Luke and Jenna scene, but then the next, they show a frame of Matty witnessing the kiss and I felt heartbroken. I get it. It's a realistic turn of events and it is a normal emotion that someone would feel when they see their ex finally moving on when they're still going through these rough bumps along the way. Of course he would be jealous. And given the drama that he has to deal with from his parents, it has to leave a terrible scar on his heart.
Well, maybe we'll see them rekindle their friendship and more? Yeah. That's probably not the best idea for Jenna. Because although, I love love love their characters together, I hate to feel sorry for Jenna going to have to go through the same mistakes all over again, because yes, Luke is perfect for her. So, maybe the best take on this is to let Matty watch them from a far, thinking about what he lost. And perhaps he would start opening up to her again, going through her backdoor again, like great friends. But Jenna has to be with Luke. And she can't cheat on him, cause come on, she's done that to every guy she's dated.
But maybe they can find a way for them to break up. A good, clean and ethical way to break it off. Then when all is done. When all the problems are over, maybe these two 'broken' characters will realize that they are also perfect for each other. They're not similar in all ways like she is with Luke, but their flaws would oppose each other and leave a perfect and neutral couple for the viewers to love.
I just love how shattered this show is. It's very realistic and I recommend it to every teenager.
